Choosing the right field for our self is easy if we know exactly what we want to. But sometime, you need to discuss with your counselor what field is suit you. Within this field specialists include psychiatrists, social workers, mental health counselors, psychiatric nurses and substance abuse specialists. Within psychology itself there are various specializations. For instance, one can choose to be a school psychologist in elementary, high school or at the university level. Other areas are developmental psychology, social psychology and industrial psychology. Psychiatric nurses choose to work with those with psychological issues like in nursing home, rehabilitation center and mental disorder center. Physicians who specialize in mental health are known as psychiatrists. In the social work field, many people go into counseling but some prefer administration or working with policy changes. Each state has different requirements before someone can practice and most have continuing education requirements to renew one’s license.
Choose and apply a job where you can give your ability or help such as hospitals, county agencies, private practice groups, community clinics, nursing homes and services for veterans. There are counselors available through one’s employee assistance program at work for many.
The salary differs depending on degree as well as the level and experience. Being licensed as a social worker will enable you to make more money than an unlicensed person with a graduate or undergraduate degree or certificate.
